At Xoom, helping you send money safely to your loved ones is our top priority. In some cases, regulations require us to ask for documents before we can process your transfer.
As a regulated financial service, gathering this information helps us to follow financial regulations, protect your account, and keep your money secure.
Why am I being asked for documents?
We may ask for documents to:
- Verify your identity
- Keep your money safe
- Prevent fraud, identity theft, or abuse of the financial system
- Follow local and international financial regulations
When might I be asked?
We may ask you to upload documents if:
- You’re sending money for the first time
- You’ve reached your sending limit
- You made changes to your account
- We need more information about you or your recipient
What documents might we ask for?
We only ask for what’s needed — usually one or more of the following:
- Photo ID: Passport, driver’s license, national ID, or residence card
- Proof of address: Utility bill, phone bill, or bank/credit card statement
- Proof of income or source of funds: Recent pay stub, bank statement with salary deposits, or tax return (W-2)
How do I send my documents?
Upload your documents using the Xoom app or at Xoom.com.
Tips for submitting:
- Photo IDs: JPG or PNG
- Bills/statements: PDFs only (screen capture not accepted)
- Make sure documents are clear, readable, full-page, and up to date
- Make sure images are not blurry or cropped
- Follow the upload instructions in the email you received
What happens after I send them?
Most reviews finish within a few hours.
In some cases, the review may take up to four days, depending on the documents and request volume. We will notify you as soon as your review is complete.
Important: If we don’t receive your documents within four days, we’re required to cancel your pending transfer. We’ll do our best to remind you before that happens.
Is my information safe?
Yes — your documents are encrypted and used only for verification. We protect your information with care under strict privacy and data protection standards.
You can learn more in our Privacy Statement.
